The Level 5 team proved its versatility as the season opened up with rule changes and a freshly paved racetrack at Daytona International Speedway. The three-day test session for the GRAND-AM Rolex Sports Car Series was an indicator of things to come for the team. During the practiced sessions, the team gradually built momentum by making small changes with every run, eventually building up to the point that the drivers were barely off the top speed by weekend’s end.
While in the fourth test session, the No. 95 rose to 5th on the speed chart with a lap of 125.898 mph. Its counterpart, the No. 55, earned its way to a second-place position by the sixth session with a lap of 126.9189 mph.
Not just did Tucker drive both cars for the Roar before the 24, he was also a participant in the Sports Car Club of America’s Double National event at Sebring International Raceway in Sebring, Florida. He finished second both days of the race. “I want as much time on the track as possible,” he said at the time. “Getting in tune with the car is paramount to setting up for a successful season.”
The Roar before the 24 is much like preseason games in other sports; it gives drivers a chance to shake off any lingering problems from the previous year and preview the type of year that is to come. Many big motorsports names are on hand at the Roar before the 24, and many of the stars who test at the Roar are enrolled in the Rolex 24 at Daytona during subsequent weekends.

Scott Tucker Earns Pole, Faces Hard Competition at Ferrari Challenge International Finals
October 2011 – Scott Tucker’s quest for a Ferrari Challenge Series world championship got off to a great start Thursday. The driver of the No. 755 Boardwalk Ferrari F430 earned the top qualifying position with a speed of 158.416 mph in preparation for Friday’s North American division race No. 1 at the Ferrari Challenge International Finals at Mugello Circuit in Mugello, Italy.
It is Tucker’s first time back in competition behind the wheel of an F430 in Challenge Series competition since last November, when he won a race and finished second in the other at the Ferrari Challenge International Finals in Spain. Following Race number 1 on Friday will be a second race on Saturday. The season comes to a close with the F430 World Finals on Sunday where Tucker looks to solidify another driving championship.
A mere .7 seconds separates Tucker from the top qualifier, Italy’s Riccardo Ragazzi, setting up a showdown for the World Championship title. The Ferrari Finali Mondiali features a world-class field of drivers, and the competition among the F430 cars is astight as it has ever been.
“We came into this week knowing how hard we needed to work to win here. The field is very, very tough,” Tucker said. “This is a very challenging circuit. You can’t make any mistakes here. If you do, you’ll run yourself right out of a chance to win. And, that’s what we came here to do – win.”
Tucker is a three-time winner in the Ferrari Challenge International Finals between 2009 and 2010. The event was held in Valencia, Spain, both years.
Mugello Circuit, officially the Autodromo Internazionale del Mugello, is a 3.529-mile road course near Florence. The track, built in 1974, is comprised of 15 turns and a long straightaway.
Turns 14 and 15 combine in a challenging hairpin that leads into the straightaway, which is1,141 meters in length. The width of the track varies between 9, 6 and 14 meters.
Tucker has competed in four Ferrari Challenge Series races this season, all in the newFerrari 458. He won the series opener at Infineon Raceway in California in April and finished sixth in the second race that weekend.
In May at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca, Tucker finished second to Enzo Potolicchio in Race 1 and fifth in Race 2. With his busy worldwide racing schedule, he has not participated in the Ferrari Challenge Series since.

Level 5 Enjoys a Much Deserved Break And A Chance to Focus On Its New Cars
October 21st – Level 5 Motorsports is enjoying a few weeks off following a jam-packed 2011 season before they close off the year at the Six Hours of Zhuhai in November. The vacation is a break in the excitement surrounding the team’s winning season that involved multiple podium appearances, two American Le Mans Series drivers’ championships and enough cars that you almost need two hands to count them all. Owner-driver Tucker and co-driver Christophe Bouchut, who won the drivers’ championships, will again join teammates Marino Franchitti, Luis Diaz and Joao Barbosa in China in just three weeks as they seek the vice championship in Intercontinental Le Mans Cup competition.
Zhuhai will be another chance to test the limits of Level 5′s new cars, two HPD ARX-01g cost-capped prototypes with modified fuel injectors for increased speed. The cars have had relatively little track time, but the laps they have completed are promising. Tucker drove one of the team’s entries to victory at American Le Mans Series Monterey at Mazda Laguna Seca Raceway in September, and the team ran both entries in Petit Le Mans, where one of the cars took first place in the LMP2 class while the other nabbed the pole position during testing. As much excitement as there has been this season surrounding Level 5 Motorsports achievements, there hasn’t been as much within the team as far as overcoming major problems. The new cars, which Tucker decided to switch to in July, haven’t given the team much to complain about.
“I feel like I’m starting to sound like a broken record,” said Team Manager David Stone at Petit Le Mans earlier this month. “But in a positive way. We’re not having any problems with the cars; the guys are doing great. It’s hard to pinpoint any challenges because everything’s gone so incredibly well.”
By “so incredibly well,” Stone means that the cars have run virtually flawlessly. Aside from some very minor adjustments for the drivers and small maintenance measures, the cars came out of the box in pristine condition. Adding the increased performance of the cars to the Level 5 drivers’ depth of talent, experience and skill has made Level 5 a formidable contender in the field. After a win by nearly 8 laps at Petit Le Mans, the team garnered some valuable ILMC points and think the vice championship is within reach. But equally important is getting the cars more track time. With every added lap and mile, the drivers become better oriented with the new prototypes.
“We’re looking forward to the opportunity to get more time in these cars,” Scott Tucker said. “So far, they’ve run great, but relatively speaking, they haven’t been tested too extensively. We’re looking forward to getting better acquainted with the cars and finding out more about them so Zhuhai will be a good race. The entire team has worked hard.”
In fact, the team worked into the early hours of the morning during Petit Le Mans to finish the second Level 5 Motorsports entry, which had just been shipped to the states from the building floor in London. When the prototype wasn’t finished before Petit testing week began, it was shipped to Road Atlanta where the Level 5 team finished the build. Completing the finishing touches on the second car while simultaneously practicing and testing for Petit Le Mans wasn’t an easy task for the mechanics, engineers and drivers, but the first-place finish is a testament to the quality of the entire Level 5 team. The whirlwind of Petit Le Mans week no doubt made these off-weeks even more welcome, as the team plays catch-up with their new cars with their eyes on a strong performance at Zhuhai.

Scott Tucker Gets Ready for Busy Race Weekend
Following their successful two-day test session in preparation for this weekend’s Petit Le Mans at Road Atlanta, Scott Tucker and Level 5 Motorsports took a much needed break from on-track action Tuesday as the American Le Mans Series teams continue preparations for the final race of the season.
Level 5 was fastest for both days of testing with a best lap of 1:13.291 during the final session on Monday. That sets the stage for an exciting round of qualifying that is scheduled for Friday afternoon. The time was posted by the No. 055 HPD ARX-01g, which will be driven by Tucker, Luis Diaz and Marino Franchitti. The team’s second entry, the No. 33 HPD ARX-01g with Tucker, Christophe Bouchut and Joao Barbosa sharing the driving duties, finished second in testing.
The ALMS season comes to a conclusion with Tucker and Level 5 having already clinched the championship in the LMP2 class. But, the event is also part of the Intercontinental Le Mans Cup in which the team currently sits second in points. With one race after this weekend remaining in that series, Level 5 is in a battle for international bragging rights.
If the pressure of the ALMS race was not enough, Tucker has set out with an ambitious schedule for this weekend. He also competes in two Cooper Tires Prototype Lites series races, two IMSA GT3 Cup Challenge by Yokohama races and the SCCA Pro Racing Trans-Am Series event.
Tucker will not get much of a break as practice resumes Wednesday for all series. Tucker will look to build on his recent SCCA STO Nationals Championship – his third consecutive championship in SCCA competition.
The 14th annual Petit Le Mans powered by Mazda, the 1,000-mile/10-hour endurance race is set for Saturday, Oct. 1. The race will air on ABC at 4 p.m. ET on Sunday, Oct. 2. Live coverage will be available in the U.S. on ESPN3 or outside the U.S. on americanlemans.com.

Level 5 Team Celebrates ALMS Success; Tucker, Bouchut Receive Drivers Awards
October 13th, 2011 – Scott Tucker and his Level 5 Motorsports teammates traded their racing jumpsuits for suit jackets and slacks for the American Le Mans Series season banquet last week. The banquet was held to honor various achievements during the 2011 season by various members of each motorsports team in the league.
Tucker and co-driver Christophe Bouchut took the stage to accept their drivers’ championships awards. The two clinched the awards when they won first place at Petit Le Mans, but they had been leading in points long before that race earlier this month. “We’re the most proud of this award and our championship at Le Mans,” Tucker said. That night, he raised a glamorous trophy above his head, but mostly this season, he’s been spraying champagne. The 2011 season has been a whirlwind of success for Tucker and the entire team, with room still left to improve for the coming season and even for the coming race, the 6 Hours of Zhuhai in China, which will end the Intercontinental Le Mans Cup Series season.
Level 5 Motorsports has taken the podium several times in the past year, starting in the beginning at the Roar Before the Daytona 24. They also delivered solid performances at the 12 Hours of Sebring, the 24 Hours of Le Mans and American Le Mans Series Monterey. Tucker also did podium time in the Sports Car Club of America series, nabbing an historical third consecutive national championship at the SCCA Runoffs, and he also continued his Ferrari career.
“Everybody’s happy and looking forward to a well deserved break before we head to China,” said team manager David Stone. The team has barely had a chance to sleep in the past month or so, as they unveiled their two new Honda prototypes for Petit Le Mans. The cars had been in production still when Tucker announced the switch, and one of the cars was shipped to the Petit track at Road Atlanta with build work still to do. The entire team stayed up until 2 a.m. multiple times to finish the build on the car and make the appropriate adjustments.
“It’s been a fantastic season with many ups and downs because of all the changes,” said Luis Diaz, another Level 5 driver. Although Diaz, Bouchut and Tucker eventually drove the new HPD ARX-01g cars to victory at Petit Le Mans, the cars were a labor of the entire team. The engineers, mechanics and pit crews all had to sync with the car as much as the drivers did, in order to streamline pit stops, driver rotation, and any mechanical issues that might have come up.
“They have a mechanic of the year award,” said Ken Swan, crew chief for Level 5. “But we have several mechanics of the year. Every individual guy did an outstanding job.” The team built five cars in this single racing season-not an easy feat with a packed racing schedule. Making adjustments on the fly and accommodating new parts and problems with every car was just a day’s work for the Level 5 mechanical team.
The team next heads to China for the Nov. 13 Six Hours of Zhuhai, where they’ll attempt to claim a vice championship in the ILMC rankings.
